That First Kiss by J.C. Valentine Virtual Book Tour

Synopsis:

Mercurial and charming, Tate Larson is a rising author and playboy who has a different woman on his arm every night of the week. Focused on his work, Tate has no plans to settle down any time soon. That is until he meets his pretty new assistant, Piper Donovan.

Desperate to escape the promise of backwater living, Piper ditched her Alabama hometown and never looked back. That was almost two years ago. Now that she is out of a job and her bank account is running on fumes, she’s desperate to find a job, fast. She finds the break she is searching for when she lands a position at Bookish Temptations. A little dancing and a lot of drinks with the girls seem the perfect way to celebrate. After a brief but explosive encounter with a man she was never supposed to see again turns out to be the same man she will be bending over backwards to please, her every instinct tells her to run. But when running means leaving the life she has struggled so hard to create, Piper decides her only option is to continue working for the devastatingly sexy Tate Larson…even if it kills her.

Unable to deny their growing attraction, they struggle to keep their distance in a relationship that requires anything but.

Review:

Oh my! This book almost immediately heats up. A great book written by one of my new favorite authors!

J.C Valentine tears up the sheets with this book! With the utterly charming, headstrong, determined Piper and the demanding, cold, sexy Tate the characters are a quite the match. It’s interesting to see their characters develop a relationship no matter how hard they try fighting it. Well, Piper does anyway. Piper is determined not to screw up her new job, she doesn’t want to land back in small town Alabama. But what can you do when your new boss is your one night stand you have been having fantasies about since that night?

I have to agree with some of the previous reviews that I have read online about The First Kiss, the bathroom scene is undoubtedly one of the best in the book. The author burned the pages with that one! But this book is so much more than that. A chance at true love when the odds and the past are stacked against you. Just how hard would you fight when you never wanted to put yourself in the position of caring for someone ever again? I think everyone can relate to the mindset, I think we have all been hurt that bad by someone we cared for.

If you have read the first book in the Night Calls series, Stranded, you will be happy to see Poppy and Felix make appearances in That First Kiss. Which thrilled me to pieces. Not only do I like the characters Poppy and Felix, Poppy by herself has a charismatic draw that readers will love. It is nice to see the ‘after’. Felix was a dynamic character in Stranded and it was awesome to see him cast as Tate Larson’s boss and close friend in this book.

This book has been hotter than the weather in Cleveland and honestly burns the pages up! Get your copy NOW! Or better yet, enter below for a chance to win a copy! And don’t forget to show some love to J.C Valentine’s Facebook page as well!

A Sit Down with Brandi Salazar Author of Spring Cleaning!

A fun sit down with the author Brandi Salazar about her book Spring Cleaning!
guy girl closes her mouth
Where did the concept of Spring Cleaning come from?

I was in the middle of writing another story when I hit a mental block. Whenever that happens, I usually just open another doc and write whatever comes to mind. What I ended up with was the opening chapter of Spring Cleaning and it just sort of evolved from there.

How hard was it, as a woman, to write about the type of domestic violence in the book?

Strangely no. I think the ease of it had more to do with my own life experiences that helped shape my vision of this story. I have never been shy of what other may view as difficult or controversial topics, and with a intimate knowledge of domestic violence, I felt comfortable in what I was writing. Also, I feel that it is important for people, women especially, to address topics like this one and know that it isn’t something dirty or shameful and most importantly, something that can be overcome.

Did you become attached to the characters in this book? Is there any chance they may appear in another one of your books?

While I love all of my characters in different ways, I can’t say that these characters will be seen again in the future. In the end, I felt like I had seen them to through some fairly large struggles and they came out on the other side with as few scars as possible, so my work is done.

Terri truly was a fantastic character, the depth of fear and emotion she shows is amazing. Did you base her off a real person or is she solely a figment of your imagination?

Terri is solely a figment of my imagination. While I drew on my knowledge of others’ experiences (and a love of Lifetime Channel movies), her reactions and emotions were what I envisioned myself feeling and doing if put in her situation.

Have you always wanted to be an author?

Not really. I kind of fell into this job. When I was a kid, all I ever really dreamed of being was a veterinarian. Once I figured out that I would have to overcome my deep fear of needles, I decided something else was in order. Race car driver was my next big thing, and then accountant, and before I knew it I was an author and returning to school to become an editor, which is what I really want to do when I grow up.

What’s in store for you next? Any upcoming books?

I am gearing up to finish the second novel in my Addicted to Magic series, Crossfire, which is about a teenage witch struggling with the life-changing effects of magic abuse, a dysfunctional family, and a recent break-up. It’s due out sometime this August.

Spring Cleaning by Brandi Salazar Virtual Tour

Spring Cleaning by Brandi Salazar

guy girl closes her mouth

Synopsis:

Sometimes, relationships can be deadly.

Terri thought she was marrying a strong, loving man, only to find that beneath that handsome face lies something cold, brutal, and dangerous. After years of abuse, Randy takes things a little too far, and Terri finally summons the courage to take matters into her own hands and make her escape. But freedom comes at a price.

Forging a new life, Terri tries to forget her past, but she can’t help looking over her shoulder at every turn. When prison bars can no longer hold Randy, and her past comes knocking, Terri finds that the strength to trust again may be her only salvation.

Review:

I absolutely loved the story! I found it to be very well done and I absolutely loved the characters in the book! I don’t know how Terri drew inner strength the way she did!

This was a great example of a book you don’t want to put down. The plot line consisted of Terri trying to escape the past with an abusive husband, and what happens after he gets out of prison with an axe to grind. While trying to protect Terri from her ex-husband Randy, her boss Luke falls for her. The lengths these two go to protect not only Terri but him as well are astounding.

I really liked how Terri’s naivety was played upon when the author divulged how she met her now ex-husband in the story. This wasn’t a book that just played upon the good traits of the characters. The mental and emotional journey that Terri went on from young college student to a woman fighting for her life is nothing short of a miracle. You read a lot of stories where victims of domestic violence never truly understand what needs to change before they can move on, but this character and author nailed it on the head. The change needs to come from within and they need to wake up one day and say enough is enough. I couldn’t think of a better way to do that then Terri’s way of Spring Cleaning!

I love Brandi Salazar’s writing style! Every question that pops into your head by reading this book gets answered and she isn’t afraid to get into the nitty gritty of the characters.

In my opinion, pick up a copy of the book, get comfy, and plan for an all night read-a-thon! You really don’t want to miss out on a book that is reminiscent of Mary Higgins Clark from this wonderful author. Let Brandi Salazar take you into the world of Terri, Randy and Luke!
